Job Title: Subject Access Request Officer (Information Governance Team)
Location: Winchester
Contract Type: 12 month contract
Salary: £16.66 per hour
Role Purpose
In this role, you'll play a vital part in safeguarding personal information by reviewing and redacting sensitive records in line with legal exemptions. You'll be supported with full training and work closely with colleagues across the County Council. Your ability to follow process, interpret legislation, and communicate clearly will be key to your success.
We're looking for someone who is process-driven, proficient in using a range of IT systems and applications, and confident in handling sensitive information. You'll need to be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, with strong communication skills and a commitment to high standards. This role may particularly appeal to individuals with paralegal experience or those with a background in legal or compliance work, especially where interpreting legislation and managing confidential records has been a core part of the role.
The team operates on a hybrid basis, with a mix of office-based and remote working. All necessary equipment will be provided to support your preferred working arrangements.
Role Responsibilities
- Delivery of Subject Access Requests from individuals seeking access to personal information held within Corporate Services, Hampshire 2050, and Universal Services. These requests can cover a broad range of topics, from employment records to public service matters such as pothole claims and must be handled in accordance with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act (2018).
- Utilise HCC software to perform redactions on records for disclosure under Data Protection legislation.
- Redact and disclose records to third party organisations such as the police.
- Correspond and communicate with members of the public regarding their Subject Access Request application. This can involve having conversations with customers who are dissatisfied with the team.
- Update HCC systems with the progress of the SAR and keep clear and accurate records of the work you have produced.
- Assist the Information Governance Manager with any cross-team tasks that may arise. This may include working on Potential Data Incidents or information rights requests with the Information Governance Team raised by the public or Freedom of Information requests.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Essential
- Broad understanding of the nature of public services delivery.
- IT skills, including basic data storage and records systems administration.
- Good practices in recording, storage and retention of records.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Negotiation & cooperation, working closely with local staff and the public in identifying requirements.
- Creativity and innovation.
- Self-motivated and committed to on-going personal development.
Desirable
- Previous experience working with Data Protection legislation, particularly in the delivery of Subject Access Requests.
- Background in a paralegal role or similar legal/compliance environment, with experience interpreting legislation and handling sensitive information.
