SEN Casworker

Salary: Up to £307 per day
Location: Winchester

 

SEN Caseworkers managing Education, Health, and Care (EHC) assessments for children with special educational needs within Hampshire County Council.

Role Overview

  • Manage EHC needs assessments for a specific locality, handling approximately 250 children.
  • Ensure statutory processes are followed, including assessments, reviews, and transitions.
  • Provide advice to parents, schools, and professionals aligned with legislation and policies.
  • Maintain accurate records on SEN databases and case files.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct statutory assessments within 20-week timescales, including preparing reports and amendments.
  • Lead annual reviews, monitor progress, and coordinate transition plans.
  • Authorise transport for children with SEN, following policy guidelines.
  • Manage day-to-day casework, prioritise tasks, and ensure consistency across cases.
  • Attend review meetings, compile case information, and make recommendations on provision and placement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • At least 12 months in a similar local authority role, with experience managing 250+ caseloads.
  • Strong understanding of SEN legislation, statutory frameworks, and processes.
  • Skilled in communication, conflict resolution, and working under pressure.
  • Proficient in IT systems like Capita One, Excel, and SharePoint.

Working Conditions and Qualifications

  • Fast-paced, high-stress environment requiring flexibility and countywide travel.
  • Requires a good education, with 'A' levels or equivalent, and experience in education administration.
  • Must have a current driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Decision-Making and Value Addition

  • Make informed decisions on assessments, placements, and transport exceptions.
  • Act as a mentor, represent the LA at reviews, and ensure compliance with deadlines.
  • Focus on maintaining quality, accuracy, and consistency in statutory responsibilities.
