Salary: £14.84 per hour
Every day, families rely on school transport to help children and young people access education safely and reliably.
Hampshire County Council is looking for an organised, professional and customer-focused Eligibility Support Officer to join their School Transport Eligibility Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting families, schools and colleagues while helping ensure that applications, enquiries and eligibility processes are managed efficiently and effectively.
If you enjoy problem-solving, communicating with a wide range of people and keeping complex processes running smoothly, we'd love to hear from you
About the Role
As an Eligibility Support Officer, you'll be at the centre of a busy and rewarding service that supports children and young people to access education.
You will work closely with parents, carers, schools and internal colleagues, helping customers navigate processes, gathering information, managing enquiries and ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
No two days are quite the same. One moment you may be helping a parent understand next steps in the application process, the next you'll be coordinating information from a school, monitoring workflow activity or supporting a review process.
You will also participate in a rota covering our School Transport emergency line between 7:00am and 5:00pm, helping ensure urgent issues affecting children and young people are responded to quickly and appropriately.
What is the day-to-day of the role:
- Acting as a key point of contact for parents, carers and schools.
- Responding to enquiries by telephone, email and written correspondence.
- Managing shared inboxes and coordinating workflow activity.
- Obtaining and checking information required to support eligibility processes.
- Liaising with schools, families and partner organisations.
- Maintaining accurate records and updating service systems.
- Supporting reviews and appeals administration.
- Producing routine reports and performance information.
- Helping ensure urgent issues are escalated and managed appropriately.
Required Skills and Experience
- Comfortable communicating with a wide range of people.
- Organised and able to manage competing priorities.
- Confident using IT systems and maintaining accurate records.
- Customer focused, professional and approachable.
- Able to remain calm when dealing with urgent or sensitive situations.
- A team player who enjoys working collaboratively.
You may currently work in:
- School administration
- Customer services
- Business support
- Admissions
- Transport administration
- Local government administration
Most importantly, you'll have a positive attitude, excellent organisational skills and a commitment to delivering a high-quality service.
